3 tips to get the most out of lunchtime concerts

If you are a Central Business District (CBD) dweller, music enthusiast, or just looking for ways to spice up your Friday lunch hours, we have good news. The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music are offering a series of free lunchtime concerts, until 12 April.

The hour-long concerts start at 12.30pm, and the choice of music pieces is inspired by the museum’s variously themed galleries around trade, faith and belief. Here are three tips to help you maximise your lunch break and concert experience.

  1. Grab a bite at Privé ACM or Empress

Pick up a fresh salad or healthy sandwich from Privé ACM if you’re feeling peckish before the show. For those who can afford a more leisurely post-concert lunch, Empress at ACM serves traditional Chinese cuisine with a breathtaking view of the Singapore River and CBD skyline.

Museum visitors enjoy a 10% discount off the a la carte food and drinks menu at both eateries, so if you are a Singaporean or Permanent Resident, stop by the museum ticketing counter for your free admission ticket as proof of visit and yes, pop by the galleries afterwards.

  1. Arrive early to snag a good seat

For good front-row seats to these free performances, arrive at the museum a few minutes before show time because the seats fill up fast. You don’t want to be that latecomer trying to make your way to an empty seat in the middle of the row while the musicians are playing.

  1. Make new friends

Your usual lunch buddies have made other plans and you don’t have company, but don’t let that stop you from attending the concert. Chances are, you aren’t the only one riding solo. So, get to know the persons seated next to you before the concert starts and you might just find company for the next lunchtime performance.
